Environmental Tips-How to Go Green

Going Green With Your Business by Lynne Saarte

If your company has been eating the dust of your competitors, chances are your company has not been using the best practices approach. Today, if your company is not committed to excellence, your company would not survive. Look around you and see for yourself, you will find that business owners and employees who are constantly working to improve the quality of the product or services and continuously finding new ways are not only persevering but are growing as well.
It is fortunate for those lagging behind that there are those who are pioneers which they can benchmark from. Their achievements serve as an inspiration to business owners everywhere. Take the example of companies who have achieved a milestone in ensuring that their business interests are attuned with the principle of environmental sustainability.

Greening the Company Going green is the current trend today. All business processes are being reviewed, from the use of energy to water conservation efforts - all in the name of environmental sustainability. Fortune 500 companies are reviewing their carbon footprints, ushering in a new and sustainable business processes.

Companies in the manufacturing sector are creating a new environment division that offers a line of eco-friendly packaging products that also meets the budgets of clients and prospects - a new and innovative way of going green without going beyond the budget. Companies in the print industry are offering eco-friendly materials for their flyers or poster printing. These materials, although they're not considered cheap poster printing, come in the form of recycled paper or bio-degradable inks.

Bigger companies are taking the extra step by switching to 100 per cent solar power. Admittedly, these photovoltaic cells cost a lot but in the long run, the savings generated from these solar panels will offset the initial cost. Others have invested in water treatment facilities to recycle effluent water. These treatment facilities convert effluent water for gardening or flushing purposes. The savings from these initiatives as well as its benefits will generally outweigh the initial costs of building the infrastructure.

Not only are these companies' efforts protecting the planet, it is also creating a niche for themselves in corporate social responsibility. Establishing a good reputation in the causes such as environment conservation is definitely a plus factor for any business. It gives the impression that they are not only after profits, they are also looking after the welfare of their customers as well.

Gaining the Perks of Going Green by Art Gib

voteWith all of the hype surrounding the environment and reducing emissions from vehicles, factories and manufacturing facilities corporations and individuals alike have jumped onto the green bandwagon. Corporate office buildings are being redesigned and recreated to work harmoniously with the environment. Energy efficient lighting elements and heating and cooling systems that rely on the internal energy of a building or solar sources to power air conditioners and lighting are being reengineered into existing buildings and new edifices are being architecturally engineered to accommodate nature lighting and energy sources that are beneficial to the environment.
Automakers are also involved in reducing vehicle emissions through the introduction and growing interest in hybrid technologies that support low emission gasoline engines combined with electric power plants to increase fuel economy while emitting few pollutants into the atmosphere. Almost every major car manufacturer has joined the hybrid market with a cross system gasoline and electric engine, but the green movement does no stop there. Company sponsored car pools are giving incentives to employees that share rides to work, producing fewer emissions and alleviating congestion, both on the roads and in the parking structures.

Recycling plants and waste management companies have teamed up to provide homeowners with alternatives to piling almost half of the refuse disposed of by households into landfills. Recycled products made from plastic bottles, glass and paper are gaining in popularity as the trend toward recycling continues to expand. Even beyond recycling waste products made of plastic, consumers are mow turning to renewable and reusable products like stainless steel water bottles that can be refilled with clean, clear water or taking natural fiber woven shopping bags to the grocery store instead of loading up on plastic bags that are not biodegradable.

Organic products that are biodegradable are appearing in more grocery stores. Organic products do not rely on chemical treatments for growth of stimulus. Not only are the healthier for consumers, because they are growth without the use of sprayed chemicals they are also better for the environment.

With more and more people contributing to the environment in a positive manner corporations are stepping forward to offer employees incentives and rewards for helping to protect and renew the environment. Companies realizing the need for environmental change to take place are turning to green incentive companies to help inspire and motivate the natural inclination to reduce waste and use replenishable resources. There is still much more that can be done to cut done on harmful emissions and reduce wasted resources, but thanks to the green movement many Americans are helping to heal the plant.

Save energy, save power, save environment by StudyLite

pluggedYou know incandescent light bulb was used to bake brownies in olden times. Guess the amount of heat a 40 Watt bulb generates is great for baking brownies but certainly not for conserving electricity and saving money. Not to forget some other applications of the incandescent bulbs such as incubators (for hatching eggs), brooding boxes for young poultry, heat lights for reptile tanks, infrared heating for industrial heating and drying processes. Does it ring a bell in your ears? Well if you care for the environment, it sure will. There is no way a 40 Watt bulb incandescent light bulb generating about 310 lumens light per watt can fulfill the Kyoto protocol. As most countries are banning incandescent bulbs and setting new standards for lighting, manufacturers like BPL are promoting green products. However experts say if this ban is regulated worldwide by 2015, it will cut carbon dioxide emission from lightening by 60 per cent. Australia has completely banned the use of bulbs in the range of 40 W to 150 W producing 310 - 2600 lumens of light. By making these changes, they indeed claim to cut greenhouse gas emissions by 800,000 tonnes (Australia's current emission total is 564.7 million tonnes), a saving of approximately 0.14%. And you don't have to be an environmentalist to make such a decision. It's not a debate; there is no right and wrong here. It's simply being conscious of and responsible for your environment. For sure it's not a rocket science - simply requires some lifestyle changes. And certainly we don't need a government regulation for this. The traditional approach to the cost however is misleading. Most energy-saving bulbs are costlier than the traditional incandescent bulbs but they have advantages that clearly outweigh the cost. For instance you would need 50 incandescent bulbs to light a room for 100,000 hours as compared to 1 LED bulb or 10 CFL bulbs. On the contrary you would be saving upto Rs 14,940 on the total cost of electricity used. However it would be quite useful if major players in this sector would highlight the differences in lifetime, running costs, carbon emission, and electricity on their products; for informed consumer choices or manufacture products like study lamp, decorative lamps using energy-saving LED lights. In the same league, many production houses have been quite inspired to look out for ways to save energy and environment. BPL's StudyLite Lamp is a breakthrough in this spectrum. Developed in collaboration with Sankara Nethralaya, the StudyLite™ has been designed to provide ideal lighting, for children, for their studies.
The light source used in StudyLite™ is premium quality LEDs, unlike incandescent bulbs and CFLs, which splash light in all directions, LED bulbs are directional. They emit light white light exactly where it is required - good for the eyes and saves energy. And has no UV or IR radiations. However comes with a battery back-up, with a life of upto 6-hours during power outages. StudyLite™ uses a dual power source: it can be powered either via mains power supply or through a solar panel that BPL provides as an additional accessory.
